Noteworthy Preemption Developments

OK SB615 (Education and Curricular Preemption): Would require that schools and district superintendents approve and make available for public inspection certain materials related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Would also allow parents to object to these materials in writing. This bill passed the state senate and is currently before the state house. See bill here

MO SJR 38 (Criminal Justice): A proposed constitutional amendment that would authorize the legislature to fund a state police force established by a state board of police commissioners. This proposal builds off of long-standing tensions between local Missouri cities such as St. Louis and the state over policing policy. This bill passed the state house and crossed over. See bill here.

PA HB972 (LGBTQ+): Would restrict trans girls and women from playing scholastic and collegiate sports. Would create a private right of action for other parents or students against the school for not enforcing this requirement. The bill is up for a house vote. See bill here
